DAYONE 9/13 Columbus to Indiana:
We left on time and, by some stroke of luck we didn’t even circle back to the house for anything. I mean, of course we thought of a few things we left that we should have brought with us (a watch, the fruit in the fridge) but nothing worth going back for. Who needs a watch when you’re on vacation? And we can have a friend get the fruit before it spoils.
We stopped at Meijer and David went in for a few last-minute items. We filled up the tank when we saw gas for $2.14 a gallon. Then we went past my Mom and Dad’s to pick up Nora. (They watched her during the afternoon so we could get the camper packed up.) We hit the road about 6:45 p.m., but stopped less than an hour later at my brother and sister-in-law’s house. They had a few items for us, including a travel journal for me.
Then we were REALLY off.
We made good time and felt things were going well as we headed northwest on Route 33. Just before it was time to pick up Route 30 westward to Chicago, we came across the same hotel we overnighted at two months ago. On our July 4 trip to Chicago, we stopped on the first night and parked the rig behind a hotel, pulled the shades, woke up the next morning and pulled out. It felt secure and no one bothered us. Plus there was plenty of parking, so we didn’t feel bad for taking up parking at a private facility. David spotted the same hotel this time, and we backed into the same parking space. This time we were slightly more obtrusive as David got out and walked the dogs before bed. Still, we didn’t run across any hostile hotel employees.
